[size=18]OOC Facts and Questions
Greetings, and thank you for reading the RhyDin Post
. There have been quite a few questions regarding this project, so in an effort to answer some of them I decided to throw up an FAQs section. The information here is technically OOC with a couple of exceptions, so if you?d like to mention it in print please feel free to contact me and double-check. If you have any other questions, PM me and I?ll add them to the FAQs if relevant. When did the RhyDin Post officially get its start IC?
This was mentioned in the OOC folder, but I?ll answer it here. Technically the OOC anniversary of the Post
is August 12, since that is when I published my first article in connection to the actual publication. But IC I have left the anniversary year deliberately ambiguous. The way I imagine it, the Post
has been around for at least five years, but it was not until almost two years ago that it became somewhat popular (or at the least more read). Controversy does wonders for readership. Do you write all the entries in the Post folder?
No, I do not! Since its inception, there have been innumerable contributions by committed ?staff members.? The only articles I personally write are the ones under the SN ?Darien Fenner.? Every other SN is a different player on DM.Does Darien write all the articles you post?
No, he does not! There is a reason every heading of every article has a picture of a person: That picture is of the article?s writer! For instance, for every gossip column article you will see a picture of Emmet Bane at the top. For every satire article, you will see a picture of Amelia Enderwood. For every news brief article, Madu Adeniji. And so on, and so on. These are all characters that work with Darien at the RhyDin Post
, and have offices in the same building.Where is the Post building located?
In the town center, in downtown RhyDin.This is a newspaper folder. Why are there ?episodes? for dueling events? Are these on TV?
They are. The RhyDin Post
also sponsors a television program called the ?RhyDin Post Sports Center,? starring Peter Pham and Chris Reed. Those episodes air on television regularly. The first blurb at the top of each sports entry with Peter?s picture is an advertisement that is placed in the printed edition of the Post
, to generate sales of the taped episodes. But even if your character does not own the taped footage, they could very well have caught the episodes on TV.I?ve noticed that there is a ?Classifieds? section. What is that for?
are for ads for now - both personal and commercial. If you?d like an ad featured for business or your character, please contact Paige in a PM.What if I have an idea for an ad, but can?t quite put it together?
Contact Paige with your ideas and any graphics. She will walk you through the process and try to help you create your ad.What is the deal with your satire articles? Are those real?
In a few words, no. Virtually everything that Amelia Enderwood writes can be lumped into the category of "fake news." She writes articles strictly for entertainment purposes, and to poke fun at certain people and issues. Anything published as "satire" likely didn't happen, hence the note at the bottom of every article: "Certain facts in the above article may have been fabricated for the sake of satire."Are the articles you publish the only ones in the printed editions of the newspaper?
Nope! Unfortunately I can?t write the dozens of articles every day that a newspaper requires, but I encourage that the Post
be thought of as a newspaper IC. By this I mean it can be assumed that it is printed daily and has more than just the articles that are posted in the DM folder. Can I play out that my character read something in the Post, even if you haven?t written it?
I am pretty conflicted with this question. On the one hand, I am ecstatic about Post
mentions IC, and I do want to reinforce the idea that the collection of authors in the DM folder are not the only official writers for the newspaper. However, there are sometimes ulterior reasons that the Post
might not publish something. It might have to do with an author?s safety, with a character?s safety, with IC bribery or shush money,, with SL plot protection? It really could be anything. So I would only ask that if you do
choose to mention something that is not actually written and ?published? in the folder, that you avoid talking about ongoing SL?s in connection with the Post
. It is not that I do not want to write about SL?s. Quite the opposite. But when I write articles for SL?s I contact the players exclusively and triple-check every fact that I am permitted to mention so that I do not step on any toes or flub their fabulous creations by saying something I am not supposed to. I am certain everyone else would like the same courtesy. That being said, I would actually prefer to be notified if you?d like a SL to be connected to the Post
, as one of my main goals in this project is to promote community writing, reading, and sharing. So in short? If it is small, feel free to mention it. If it is a SL, please hit me with a PM so I can write about it for you!How big is the staff at the Post IC?
The actual staff number is anywhere between 250-400 people, with more additions and discharges happening every day. After all, a newspaper staff doesn?t just include writers and reporters. There are researchers, fact-checkers, editors, photographers, graphics artists, and so on for each department. In the office in RhyDin there are also technology analysts, translators, secretaries, video technicians, and three ambassadors on staff.I started a SL, but no one has contacted me about it. Can you still write a piece for me?
Yes! Please see the Regarding News
thread for further information. Worth mentioning is my note on practicality, though. Even if your SL is somewhat private, there are always ways to work around that and find some way to get you published in the Post
.I know a lot of the authors are NPC?s, but does that mean they are never around?
Though the characters I write for are NPC?s, it is not unfathomable that they would be seen out and about RhyDin. Sightings are perfectly fine. Can I add a new topic in the Post folder?
Unless you are a member of the staff, I ask that you run your idea by me first. That being said, there is an Op-Ed
segment that is designed for non-affiliated contributors, and a Letters to the Columns
thread for any IC inquiries or responses. What if I want to contact one of the other writers?
Send them a PM! The Post
?staff? welcomes constructive criticism and praise as much as I do. If you have an idea for one of them, don?t be afraid to speak up.What do I do if I want to write for the Post?
PM me! You might also want to have a look at the Application Guidelines
thread for a few things to think about.
