Mid-Autumn Festival: A Golden Gala
« on: September 28, 2018, 01:18:38 PM »
A GOLDEN GALA -- OCTOBER 20, 2018 at 9 PM EST

According to legend, Trebor and Arabrab are the spirits of lovers whose passion for one another outshone even the brightest star. Forced to look upon them day after day, and jealous of their ardent, unmistakable bond, the Sun bargained with a faerie prince, trading his chariot for a single wish: for Arabrab to join him in the heavens. A devious, cunning trickster, the faerie prince fulfilled his bargain to the Sun's detriment by placing Arabrab opposite him in the sky, that he might never look upon her again. When Trebor learned what had happened, he was so sad that he displayed fruits and cakes and gave sacrifices to his lover until his dying day. Moved by his unwavering love and devotion, the faerie prince bargained with Trebor for the last day of his mortal life, trading it for an eternity in the heavens near Arabrab. Once a month their orbits align, bringing them close to one another, both moons full and bright with the light of their everlasting love.

Today, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a harvest celebration that focuses on the spirit of gratitude, celebrated to mark the end of the harvest season. It is a time to recognize and give thanks for nature's abundance; when family and friends come together in joyous reunion with their loved ones to make offerings in honor of the twin moons, symbols of harmony and unity. In addition to offerings, other traditions have been adopted throughout the years that include burning incense in reverence to deities, performance of dragon and lion dances, and the putting of colorful lanterns on rivers to welcome the souls of ancestors believed to be visiting the living.

The Gilded Quay invites you to celebrate the harvest in spectacular fashion at their annual black tie affair: A Golden Gala. This year's exquisite event is located on the waterfront where guests begin the evening with a cocktail reception on the mezzanine, followed by a three-course gourmet dinner served in the galleria tent. Beginning at 9 PM, party guests may enjoy an open bar, light fare in a variety of savory and sweet moon cakes, and dancing to live music from The West End Symphony ORChestra on a dazzling, golden mirrored dance floor.

Throughout the evening, the nearby waterfront will bear witness to dozens of scintillating parade float lanterns as they make their way down the river. Small, paper lanterns will be made available should guests wish to add to the display.

Every guest will receive a complimentary gift bag on the way out, along with a tin of our signature gold dust mooncakes as an offering to you, our friends, during this celebration of abundance. In addition, The Gilded Quay has hidden five golden eggs around the venue. Guests lucky enough to find one will receive a door prize from a pool of graciously donated gifts from local Rhydin businesses.

((OOC Notes:  Post here with your outfits and reactions. You're welcome to post entire scenes if you'd like to play with your friends, or even a simple "so and so was here" will suffice. Any post will allow your character to be eligible as one five attendees who find a lucky egg. Winners will be announced about an hour after the party kicks off, so make sure you get your post in before then. The winners will be chosen from the guest list via RNG and will receive a message immediately with what their prize will be. It will be up to the player to choose where they find the egg. I leave it up to your wonderful imaginations, as well as what your character might find in their gift bag!

I'd like to thank everyone who helped make this come together. It was a true group effort; I appreciate all the suggestions and input. Especially Cor's. Ahem.))

August arrives in the company of his beautiful, vivacious wife, Sarah. Though he can be seen taking her for a spin or two on the dance floor, August prefers the sideline and comfort of table conversation, happily watching on as his wife finds other (more enthusiastic) dance partners. Before the night is through, the couple make their way riverside to set a lantern of their own afloat with all the others.

« Reply #3 on: October 06, 2018, 05:31:04 PM »

~Heart Notes~ Parfumerie is honoured to provide one of the five select prizes awarded at this year's Golden Gala Celebration on the 20th of October. Owner and Master Parfumeuse, Elessaria Devabriel, has created a unique, custom-couture fragrance named Lunar Gold for this special occasion. This unisex offering opens with notes to evoke the crisp moonlight of an autumn's full moon.  The scent then transitions to capture the golden warmth of the last sunset, only to linger on one's skin like a lover's caress.

Lunar Gold contains the following (but is not limited to) the following notes:

Opening accords:  green tea flower, dewberry, moonflower, juniper berries
Heart accords: lady of the night, sideritis (mountain tea), French labdanum, wrightia
Base accords:  saffron, light and dark amber, cyperus scariosus, galbanum, sichuan pepper

This singular eau de parfum is decanted in a bottle crafted by highly talented, Ethan Kaiser of Kaiser Glassworks.

Three bottles of an eau de toilette version will be available to the public for a limited time.  All proceeds will go the Sarengrave House Project.

Many, many thanks to all who helped and encouraged me with this return to a part of my play/writing which I truly enjoy.  Also, continued thanks to Ethan's player for our continued "canon" of working together all these years!

Thanks to Mai, Penny discovered that there were dresses that people actually rented. Or was it leased? In the end, the Wizard just hoped that nothing went wrong like the last time when she wore a fancy gown. At least this time, Patrick would get a chance to see her in it first.

Thank the Kami for stylists. Richa Banerjee, master artist, was more than happy to help Patrick look his best -- because his fashion sense was admittedly terrible. Simone offered to tame his hair now that it had grown back out, but Trick decided to leave it sans product so Penny wouldn't be able to keep her hands out of it.

Local fashion stylist Richa Banerjee, having learned of the event from Patrick Richie after making him look his best, decided to attend in the company of two handsome men, whose names she never provided. She treated them as little more than bodyguards. They trailed after her the entire time like lost puppies while she socialized, mingled, and spread news of her and her sisters' business. A popular part of her advertising was pointing out the young pilot: "See that young man there? Patrick Richie? I dressed him." As an afterthought she'd think to add, "Oh, and them," while referring to the two pieces of arm candy who constantly kept her silent company. She was also not shy about the fact that she had designed her own dress as well. "My friend Nohemi did my make-up," she was also known to mention. "Isn't it flawless?" Casual mentions of the Weird Sisters Inc., for all your styling needs, were dropped in the right ears as she enjoyed the festivities.

Styling hair with horns turned out to be harder than Mallory thought, but Simone (of Weird Sisters Inc., for all your styling needs!) helped by twirling it around her horns, gathered with a golden Gorgoneion hair clip in the back:

She also had her horns (temporarily) painted gold for the occasion:

She finished washing the blood stains out of the old-fashioned grey suit she'd used for the Murder Mystery, pairing it with a striped shirt, a blue floral-patterned necktie, and brown Oxfords:

This was the last time Katt would let someone else pick her dress! Her dark hair pinned back with gold adornments to match the rather elaborate dress and ankle wrapped heels to keep her from kicking them off. While elegant and all, the cloak/drape is likely to be drawn over one shoulder and arm most of her time wandering around. At her side, Clayton can be found in crisp black and pale gold

Jewell arrived on the arm of someone who looked nice in a suit, smiled, fetched her drinks, made excellent small-talk, and complimented her coloring and dress perfectly. All the same, the Empress was not at all disinclined to leave him behind to schmooze and dance with others throughout the night.

Of course Rhydin's Best Cajun is in attendance! And of course he's not alone. Tonight, he's accompanied by the ethereal vision that is Aoife Duggan. Throughout dinner, the pair share intimate conversation with one another, and afterwards, Cane's happy to introduce the songbird to anyone he recognizes throughout the evening, though he's fairly greedy with her company. They can be seen whirling about the dance floor more than once, but as soon as the floating lantern parade begins, he and Aoife will move outdoors to watch the show until it's finished.

Unable to resist an opportunity to dress up pretty and hang on the arm of the most handsome man in the entire universe, Ed Smith cleaned himself up nice and attended the gala in the company of Goshen. He put on a pair of black slacks and a black button down shirt to pair with the sparkly and shimmery accoutrements that his boyfriend had happily bought for him. Of course this was likely to make him stand out in the crowd, but he liked it that way. Especially this night, because it meant that he got to boast over and over again about the wonderful news of his engagement! That's right! He and Goshen are now engaged to be married!

They danced. They dined. They mingled with the crowds and chatted the night away, meeting up with old friends as well as making new ones, because Ed has a super power that way. They marveled at the paper lantern parade and even added a couple of their own to the mix. One to commemorate their engagement. One to celebrate the birth of young Gary Dean only a couple days prior. They stayed long into the wee hours of the morning, unwilling to quit celebrating until they were too exhausted to go on and everybody else had gone home as well. In fact, they watched the sunrise together, for extra romantic effect.

The Lyceum is happy to provide one of the prizes to be awarded at the Golden Gala: The Twinmoon Vial! In keeping with the legend of Trebor and Arabrab, only one of the two moons can be viewed at a time; turn it in your hand and one will vanish into the edge of the glass, only for its twin to rise in its place, only reunited once a month when their larger counterparts are both visible in RhyDin's night sky. It gives off the cool air and faint silver light of an autumn evening, and will change the feel of the room it is in no matter the season.

Compared to his date, Goshen's attire is fairly understated. He's never had a problem letting Ed shine his brightest. In fact, he rather enjoyed every chance he got to show him off.
