Site News / Indefinite Leave of Absence
« on: December 02, 2018, 12:35:05 AM »
Hello, everyone.

Effective immediately, I am going on an indefinite leave of absence due to personal medical and family emergency. I do not know when I will be able to properly devote to my duties again, and I know I won't be able to reliably answer emails, PMs, DMs, or whatnot. Please use Contact Us, or in an emergency try to reach Xenograg and Amal if it's serious. I wish you all the best and I hope things turn around for us all.

Brian/BW/Toby/whatever else you may know me as.

Site News / Current News (Updated 12/1/18): BW Leave of Absence, Updates

12/1/2018

BW will be taking an indefinite leave of absence as an Admin, per below.

http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=33431

11/30/18

We have updated the front page to display the latest in forum posts, giving you a better look at the current developments on the boards.

The Mount Yasuo map has been changed & updated, and with that change we have now replaced all the Flash content on the site.

11/28/2018:

The chat box in BlaB where you enter your text is now larger - you can see three lines of text before entering them, instead of just one.

11/8/2018:

The new Rhydin Map is up - it's time for Lease Renewals to get it populated. Please read the link below for the details:

http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=33405

Also, we're going to try something out for a few months, and that's adding a further 30 days onto the time before a folder gets Catacombed. So starting effective November 1st, folders that have posts in them as far back as 90 days (3 calendar months), will still remain active. We're hoping this will ease the burden on people who mean to keep the creativity flowing, but are hampered by RL pressures. As before, we're not going to worry about just what those posts are, as long as something gets put in place in that time period.

Semi-Recent, Partially Aged News:

10/29/2018:

*) Per Xenograg, the Blab Chat status settings are now active. [Away, At The Bar, and so forth].

10/16/2018:

*) The inaugural State of the Nexus address is up:

http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=33375

*) BlaB chat Entered/Leaving room notifications are active:

http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=33373

*) The front page of RDI.Dragonsmark.com will soon be undergoing some redesign, to better display site news and updates.

*) The Calendar app for the front page/Sidebar is being worked on (is currently not working).

Site News / Ask The Staff is Moving! And more good stuff
« on: October 09, 2018, 11:32:32 AM »
Good morning, everyone,

In order to try and make things more unified with the RDI community, we are gradually moving towards combining the Dragonsmark.com site and the RDI.dragonsmark.com site together into one unified website.

This is a long-term project, and as you can imagine, not a simple one. But to get everyone moving towards one combined platform, we're going to be creating a new "Ask The Staff" section in the OOC (top) section of the RDI site.  The idea is to gradually transition everything into one location, to make it less confusing and more efficient for us all.

The first step, mentioned above, will be the creation of the RDI-side "Ask the Staff" forum. We can also recreate and start fresh with sections like The Round Table, Random Thoughts, and so forth. Because they're separate sites, it's not technically feasible to move the existing threads - but we will archive the old ones, so that nothing is lost. They'll still be viewable (read-only) on the Dragonsmark site, but the new and active discussions will be on the RDI side.

There are other changes I will be talking about coming up soon, including a regular State of the Nexus address (yes, I'm shamefully stealing here) which will allow us to discuss current issues with the site/community, unveil possible upcoming changes and take feedback about all of it.

EDIT:   We've also created several other new OOC forums here along those lines.  "Community Open Discussions" is meant to be the new home for the old "Dragonsmark Open Discussions", "RDI Open Discussions" and "Round Table, to give people a one-stop shop for saying what needs to be said.

We're also bringing Random Thoughts over, because ... well, everyone needs to be random sometimes.

Site News / Update on the Site Transition. PLEASE READ
« on: October 05, 2018, 11:06:47 AM »
Good morning.

There has been a lot of anger, a lot of strong emotions over the recent announcement about the separation of ownership of the RoH and the RDI sites. Regardless of any other behind-the-scenes issues, it's paramount that the Rhydin community stays together. And while there are changes as a result of this OOC shakeup, the world of Rhydin still remains.

As a result, effective immediately, RoH events can continue to be advertised on the RDI site, as playables and so on. This decision comes from all of us on the administration team.

Dueller, non-dueller, player or Admin  - we all still have one thing in common.  We're roleplayers. A lot has happened, but I would ask from here out for everyone to try to act to rebuild that common bridge. It's not an impossible future, and I hope this is the first step towards it.

We are aware that you cannot currently enter Live Chat if you aren't already logged into the forum page. This is being worked on now.

Thanks to Sira for her original playable post (below) for pointing this out to us. The playable was removed once we put this up to take its place (for obvious reasons), but our thanks remain.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
"For people who cannot access the chat right now there is a simple workaround.
Log into the forums, then return to the home/front page, and click enter live chat. The chat is up and working!
Just an FYI since I'm already violating the sanctity of the playables, people have been getting a "disconnected" pop up while in chat--but it isn't actually kicking people out."
Site News / Want a Folder? Need questions answered? Look no further!
« on: October 02, 2017, 02:24:56 PM »
Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Getting Your Own Folder..
...But Were Afraid To Find Out.
There are four different main areas you can have your own story folder in. They are Dreamweaver's Lair (which is where most of them reside), The Marketplace, Dockside, and Star's End Sector.
There are four corresponding request threads for the four major Forum sections as you see them on the main forum page (the fifth thread is for Mt. Yasuo which currently does not have any individual folders):
1) Dreamweaver's Lair:
 http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9479
Dreamweaver's Lair incorporates the subforums Dragon Tales, Town Center, Whispers in the Night, From the Dragon's Mouth, Red Dragon Innsights, Dragon Spine, Elisian Fields, Crossroads, and WestEnd ** (SEE BELOW REGARDING WEST END). If you have any changes to make to a folder in those locations, or want a new folder in one of them, use the Dreamweaver's Lair thread. This also includes any issues with threads in Dragon Tales.
2) The Marketplace: http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7600
Marketplace is for folders in "The Fountain" subforum only.
3) Dockside: http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21643
Dockside is for folders in the "Rising Tides" subforum only.
4) Star's End Sector: http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13666
Star's End Sector is for the "Star's End Bar & Grill" subforum only.
And of course the Catacombs thread is for requesting a catacombed folder to be resurrected, an active folder to be sent TO the Catacombs, or to ask for threads from Catacombed folders to be moved elsewhere.
** If you want a folder in West End, that's a different story. You have to contact one of their moderators and get them to request it for you. We will not take requests for West End directly from users, only from the moderators of that area.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Site News / A Plea On Behalf of Email Address Updating
« on: August 16, 2017, 05:37:31 PM »
After some recent issues, it's time to start reminding everyone about keeping their email addresses current for their logins.
This is extremely important, for everyone: Please log into any and all accounts that belong to you, and be SURE to update the current email address of record. And by that I mean make sure it's an email address you have access to, one that you can receive emails on. If you haven't done so already, do it now after reading this post.
* You can put any email address that you like in, once you have the account active. There is no restriction at that point. The 'Contact Us' for activation ONLY counts for brand new accounts - not for accounts you create off of an existing one, or for editing existing ones.
Administration can NOT do anything regarding your account if it doesn't come from the email address used on the account. This includes, but not limited to, resetting passwords, reactivating accounts, moving folders or changing folder ownership/moderators, etc.
It is far too easy to attempt an account hijack, especially with the various spoofing tricks that are common these days. Because of this, we absolutely can not and will not reset account passwords or email addresses unless the request comes from the email address tied to that account. It's NOT enough to say "Well, this was my email address, surely that proves it's me" - because it doesn't prove anything. It's equally possible someone learned what email address you have tied to your account, and could use it in an attempt to gain access to your account. It has happened before.
Please remember this is for your own protection, and check your accounts today.
If it seems like we repeat this a lot, it's because we keep getting requests just like this, that we cannot help because they 'forgot' their email or no longer have access to it. So this is for your benefit that we keep harping on you.
Site News / RDI Host Program Ending
« on: June 12, 2017, 01:10:38 PM »
Good afternoon,
After a period of discussion, we are announcing that the RDI Host program will be closing its doors after more than 25 years, effective July 1st 2017. Everyone who has worn the red apron of an RDI Host, from the early days on AOL and QLink before it, up to this past year, has our deepest thanks and gratitude for your contributions over the years.  Though it has not always been an easy job, and frequently a thankless one, you served the community with distinction.  Every one of you brought something precious and unique to the RDI, and to Star?s End Bar, and it will not be forgotten.
This will not affect our DUEL calling staff, they will remain on duty as always for your competitive pleasure. This only affects the RDI chat room hosts who serve in the Inn itself.
It should be mentioned that while the hosts will no longer be around, that does not mean the rules are being thrown out. Nothing has changed as far as the guidelines for chat rooms, nor is this to be taken as an opportunity to ignore them. We will take infractions seriously and anyone caught breaking the rules will be punished. You can read the current guidelines here:
http://www.dragonsmark.com/dm-infractions.php
Any questions regarding this change can be sent to us via the Contact Here form.
Regards,
Site News / Folder Request Reminder
« on: February 26, 2017, 10:53:30 PM »
There's been some recent confusion about where requests for folders and folder changes should be posted, so here's a reminder.
Site News / (Another) Filter Reminder
« on: September 25, 2016, 01:10:00 PM »
There seems to be a lot of confusion lately, about 'why the filter doesn't work'.
I have looked into each and every example recently and it is the same thing every time. It is the same thing we've told people for years now, but I will say it once again.
Punctuation can break the filter. In almost every case I have seen, a Quotation Mark or a Period, directly adjacent to the word in question, will cause the filter to allow it through.
I have said in the past that accidents happen, and we try to be as understanding as we can of that - particularly since quotes are used for dialogue by a large % of players.
But I am seeing people (and it seems often to be the SAME people) abusing this glitch lately. Accidents happen, but I have personally warned some of these people repeatedly - when that happens, it's no longer an accident, it is an abuse of the glitch and of our patience.
So let me spell this out clearly - if you see a word on our filter list get through, it's almost always because of the punctuation glitch. You know it, we've made it clear.  It's no mystery, and the list of words is there for everyone to see under Site News. If you're using one of these words, you need to be a little more careful:
http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28670
There is no excuse for repeatedly violating a rule that is there to see, and that I have explained uncounted times. We have the list of filtered words posted publicly, as we were begged to do for years. We have pared that list down to only ten words and their variations. And that still does not seem to be enough for some players.
Now that I have had to warn the same people/person repeatedly, the next step is going to be an official warning. And if that isn't enough, then there will be a 48-hour ban, per the rules this site has had for ten years+.
So before it has to come to that, I will ask one last time. Please stop abusing the rules and abusing the filter's punctuation glitch.
Polyvore Set Pasting Instructions Written and Submitted by FioHelston.
1.  Open the set page in Polyvore.
8.  DELETE everything in the code BEFORE and AFTER the .JPG code (including quotation marks) so that you are left with the .JPG file name:
http ://embed.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-set/cid/38814565/ id/Lic4kGEC4RGmpSyS9YGMUA/size/y.jpg
9.  Put parentheses and image codes around it, like shown:
10.  Select the options checkboxes, as appropriate.
11.  Click Submit.
