After reading The Guild Wars posts (to date), I decided to begin a thread based on a snippet of Lord Dredd's comments on Sat May 24, 2008 11:25 am:
<snip>
Recruitment
I cannot promise or guarantee that there will not be the occasional nerb running into the RDI or another chat room asking if people want to join a guild. However, given the slightly higher level of maturity and greatly smaller player base here, the chances are considerably smaller. And of coarse there is also that lovely "ignore" option. BTW, NWO is currently accepting applications for those interested in serving the forces of evil. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
<end>
One of my pet peeves in the online RP world is with guild recruitment/recruiters. Those that not only run into a role-play room and shout out (using all caps) about joining a particular guild, but also send unwanted IM's/PM's seeking applicants. *I* do not suffer gladly this type of room/rp disruption -- yes, imo, I do consider it a disruption.
Therefore, I have a couple of suggestions should Guilds become a part of the DM site: I believe those who want guild information and/or to join a guild can IM/PM the person(s) heading up said guild(s) or use the e-mail system (for either recruiting or joining). Also, folders/threads can be utilized for recruitment/information.
That way we don't have to stop our RP to use the ignore option from 'fly-by' shout outs.

Create a "Guild Recruitment Post" in the forums. This way it is also plainly visible and people don't have to wade through it in the Story folders.
You have a place to participate if you want, but it's not a disruption. |

In the services of evil, guild recruiters! Oh my...again, what ever shall we do...
Idea.. Go to Mount Yasuo...then find Bob. Ask him for a custom made chainsaw. And return home. Then when one of these pesky gulid promoters comes by, you can show them your support for the forces of evil by tearing them limb from limb with your one of a kind chainsaw. The Guild master should appreciate this action, if they are truly evil.
Chances are though this might kick up some dust nobody wants to breathe in, so, plan B goes into effect. Remember to get a tracking device from Bob too. Then when the Guild poster child returns to home base, you can follow them home and do all your dirty work up close and personal...again, in the services of evil, this is what they wanted right?
Clean off the blood/goo/ whatever else might come from these things, go back to the Inn and quietly have a drink and wait for the next one to come in.
Lets face it. Guilds make for excellent practice when it comes to mass murder, it is their number one purpose in the RP world.
So if one of these pesky people decide to try and convert you, remember they already have been brainwashed, and are serving the wrong bad guy, not me Obviously . If they are not serving me, feel free to wipe em out at your own pleasure.
Nobody will miss a misguided guild member anyways, you can trust me on this one.

I agree with what you are saying. In the past, I gave specific instructions to my members on how to recruit and forbade the use of such tactics. I do think a possibly "stickied" thread on the forums (DM main and RDI) for guild recruitment posters would be a splendid idea.
