Dragon's Mark Guidelines

Dealing with Harassment

Q: Someone is constantly bothering me, what can I do?

A: If someone is contacting you via a service outside of Dragon's Mark, you will need to follow that service provider's instructions for what to do. Just about all IM or email services have a way to "block" incoming messages from a specific person.

If someone is using the chat on Dragon's Mark (including the Red Dragon Inn and Pharos Station) you can block their incoming messages using the ignore command. Typing /ignore "username" on the chat line will block the chat text and IMs from that username.

If someone is sending you unwanted PMs via the forums, the "easiest" thing to do is delete the message without reading it Simply check the box to the right of the PM and click the "delete selected" button at the bottom of the page.

If you feel that someone has gone beyond "bothering" you, then please review our FAQ on dealing with/reporting harassment.

Q: I have tried to 'ignore' someone who is bothering me, but they keep contacting me. What can I do?

A: In general, we hope and believe that 99.9% of the situations you will run across can be dealt with on a player-to-player basis, either by using tools such as the ignore command, or after a cooling off period trying to work things out. In those few cases where one player simply will not "play nice" and continues to bother another player or players, the administration of Dragon's Mark will do what they can to help.

Please understand that we are only able to help you when someone is using Dragon's Mark resources when attempting to contact you against your wish. This includes public postings in the forums, Private Messages sent via the forums, and chat or IMs sent via our chat service. If someone contacts you against your wishes using one of these methods, please do the following;

  1. Save a copy of the "unwanted contact". How you do this will vary slightly depending on how the contact was made, see the end of this article for specifics.
  2. Send this person a simple and polite request that they stop contacting you in any form. Save a copy of this request.
  3. If the person attempts to contact you again after you have requested they stop, use the "Contact Us" form (located on the More Info menu) or send a PM to the username "The Red Dragon" (edit for Pharos) with the following information.
    1. username of the person contacting you.
    2. a "copy" of the message they sent you.
    3. a "copy" of your request that they stop contacting you.

The Admins will be notified of this message, investigate the incident and take action as warranted.

If there is further contact from this same username, or by another username you believe to be from the same player, notify the Admins via the "Contact Us" page or by sending a PM to "The Red Dragon" with that information, referencing your initial report.

How to Save & Forward Messages

Private Messages: If an unwanted message is sent to you via PM in the forums, do NOT delete it. Instead, put a check in the box after that message and click the "Save Marked" button at the bottom of the page. This can be done without opening and reading the message. If you need to provide a copy of this PM to the Admins at a later date, go to your "Savebox", open the message and click the "Quote" button. Go to the username box, delete the name of the sender and put in "The Red Dragon" and click submit.

To save your request for another person to no longer contact you, immediately after you send it to this person, go to your "Outbox", then click on the Subj of the PM you are sending to open a copy in your browser. Looking at the address line of your browser you will see the "address" of this message. It will look something like http://rdi.dragonsmark.com/forums/privmsg.php?folder=outbox&mode=read&p=12345 - copy this address and make note of the number at the end (p=1234 in this case). You need to save this number so if necessary we can verify that the request was sent. Even if the person receiving the request deletes the message, with that number we will still be able to verify it was sent. If you need to report unwanted contact at a later date, PM that address or number to "The Red Dragon". One of the simplest ways to keep that address is to send yourself a PM with a copy of it, and save it to your Savebox.

Live RP/Chat: If an unwanted message is sent to you in a chat room, make a note of the date, time and username, then once the log for that hour is available, download it from our website. Chat Logs from the last seven days are available for all permenant, public rooms from the "Community Menu". If you need to report contact made in a chat room, use either the Contact Us page or send a PM to The Red Dragon and include the date, time, username and room it occured in. You do not need to include a copy of the chat log right away, but we may request you email it if needed.

If an unwanted message is sent to you in the chat via the IM feature. make note of the date, time and username. One of the easiest ways to record this is by sending yourself a PM and saving it to your Savebox. If you need to report contact made in a chat room, use either the Contact Us page or send a PM to The Red Dragon and include the date, time and username. Be sure to let us know the contact occurred via IM.

Please remember, because of user privacy, we are unable to disclose details of any action taken against another member.

Violation of these guidelines may result in action being taken against your account/accounts. See the DM FAQ on Dealing with Site Infractions for more information.

Questions or comments about these guidelines, or suspected violations can be sent using our Contact Us page.
